ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.

(c) Inspect the oil control valve (for intake camshaft).

(1) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT System (Bank 1).

(2) Check the engine speed when the oil control valve is operated using the Techstream with the engine coolant temperature at 50°C (122°F) or less.

HINT:

  • When performing the Active Test, the air conditioning should be on.
  • Engine coolant temperature when the engine is started should be 30°C (86°F) or less.

Standard Condition:

Tester Operation

Specified Condition

OCV is OFF

Normal engine speed

OCV is ON

Soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON, engine idles roughly or stalls

(d) Inspect the oil control valve (for exhaust camshaft).

(1) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1).

(2) Check the engine speed when the oil control valve is operated using the Techstream with the engine coolant temperature at 50°C (122°F) or less.

HINT:

  • When performing the Active Test, the air conditioning should be on.
  • Engine coolant temperature when engine is started should be 30°C (86°F) or less.

Standard Condition:

Specified Condition

100%

Soon after OCV switched from OFF (-100%) to ON (+100%), engine idles roughly or stalls.

-100%

Normal engine speed
